Last updated: Wednesday, 5 July 2017

Due to industrial action by staff at another train operating company, a very small number of ScotRail services between Dumfries and Carlisle will be subject to alterations on 8, 9 and 10 July.

What’s happening?

On 8 and 9 July, six trains between Dumfries and Carlisle will be replaced by buses.

In addition to this, on all three days, some trains from Glasgow to Carlisle which continue as Northern Rail services to Newcastle and will terminate at Carlisle. All trains will run at their normal times, unless otherwise stated.

Why is this?

We share our trains with Northern Rail on the route between Glasgow, Dumfries, Carlisle and Newcastle. Trains between Scotland and Carlisle are ScotRail services, while Northern Rail run the Carlisle – Newcastle services.

In addition, a handful of trains per day are operated by Northern Rail on our behalf for logistical reasons. Due to industrial action, Northern Rail has advised us that these services will not run.
