Prestigious Retail Opportunity with ScotRail in £8m Revamped Station

Last updated: Tuesday, 9 May 2023

ScotRail is offering retailers the chance to get in at the start of a new beginning for Aberdeen station.

Three retail units are available as part of the £8m renovation of the station.

They offer great potential and will be attractive to large multiples or small independents that are seeking a prime city centre location. The units, which are available immediately, are provided to a shell specification and include shop fronts.

Successful applicants for the vacant units will be rewarded with a number of advantages boasted by the city and its railway station.

  • Projected annual passenger footfall at Aberdeen station is 2.7m.
  • Aberdeen is the busiest station in Scotland north of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
  • Aberdeen has repeatedly been rated the safest city in the UK.
  • It’s the third largest city in Scotland.
  • The Tourism Strategy is to grow visitor spend in the area to £1billion per year.
  • Aberdeen was named best location in the UK to start a business (Which 2021).
  • The city has 1.3 million tourist visitors a year (Aberdeen Tourism & Visitor Plan 2019).

Unit 1 (149 sq m) is a large unit located in a prime site within the main station concourse. It has full height glass frontage offering retailers optimum visibility to showcase their business.

Unit 2 (174 sq m) adjoins unit 1 with matching glazed frontage.

Units 1 and 2 could be offered as a single let.

Unit 3 (GF:96 sq m / FF: 125 sq m) is sited within the imposing North Corner of Union Square with dual access at both ground floor and from Guild Street at first floor. The two-storey unit is fully accessible and will be of interest to bar/restaurant operators and specialty retailers.

Retailers taking the spaces will be able to maximise the potential created by the significant changes to the look and feel of Aberdeen station, which has sat in the heart of the city centre for more than 150 years.

The relocation and refurbishment of the ticket office and first-class lounge – which can be used by ScotRail, Caledonian Sleeper and LNER customers who hold a valid first-class ticket – to the main concourse has created an improved ticket retail environment and enhanced customer experience.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said:

“This is a great opportunity for retailers to get in at the start of a new beginning for Aberdeen station.

“The makeover is fantastic and will be a real talking point for people in the city who, I am sure, will be as proud as we are of the end result of the refurbishment.

“There’s no better time than now to get involved, and we look forward to welcoming our new retail partners in this prestigious development.”
