ScotRail has confirmed the expansion of its Travel Safe Team following the train operator’s current recruitment drive.
ScotRail is actively recruiting 24 Travel Safe Officers, three Travel Safe Supervisors, and one Safeguarding Manager.
Once complete, this recruitment will make permanent the current temporary team of nine, adding 19 new posts to make it a team of 28.
Following the selection process, ScotRail hopes to begin the phased introduction of the new team members in the autumn.
ScotRail’s Travel Safe Team was introduced in October 2021, and since then, have been working closely with British Transport Police to support customers and colleagues in the promotion of a safe railway environment, both on train and in stations.
The team was designed to be a reactive resource with the ability to quickly focus on emerging hot spots. They actively engage and educate individuals and groups on the impact of unsafe behaviours when on or around the railway.
Since its introduction, ScotRail’s Travel Safe Team has targeted a number of stations and routes, and the train operator has seen a drop in reported events during, and after, the anti-social behaviour exercises.
