ScotRail half-price ticket boost for Scottish students

Last updated: Monday, 6 September 2021

Scotland’s students are being given a welcome end of summer fares boost, thanks to a massive 50 per cent discount on tickets from ScotRail.

This means half price travel on any off-peak ScotRail services on all routes between 6 and 26 September so students can get out and about for less and maybe take a trip to a different city or catch up with friends before term starts.

With a bit more money in their pockets they can also look forward to Freshers Week whether they are new students or ones who’ve been around a while.

Students need a valid ID when purchasing their ticket, which can be bought from a staffed station or on-board if travelling from an unstaffed station. The offer is not available online and advance bookings are not required.

And there’s no limit to the number of times students can take advantage of the offer within the travel period.

For Off-Peak Returns, return travel is valid for up to one month, which means the last date for return travel is 25 October. For Off-Peak Day Returns, outward and return travel must be completed on the same day.

The train operator is reminding customers that in their stations, both open air and covered, and on-board trains, they must by law wear a face covering, unless they are medically exempt.

Wearing a face covering helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19, as you can still catch and pass on the virus even if you have been vaccinated.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said:

“We think this half price deal on tickets will be really popular with students, whether they are getting around Scotland before terms starts, going to university for the first time or returning to continue their course.

“We know students have to eke out their grants and finances throughout the year so ScotRail is proud to be doing its bit to help our next generation of high achievers.”
