Return to term-time ticket boost for Scotland’s students

Last updated: Tuesday, 9 May 2023

ScotRail is giving Scotland’s students a return to term-time ticket boost by providing massive 50 per cent discount on rail fares.

From Monday, 5 September, College and University students can take advantage of half-price Off-Peak tickets on ScotRail services across Scotland.

The offer runs until 25 September meaning students can get out for less, take a trip to a different city, or catch up with friends before term starts.

And there’s no limit to the number of times students buy train tickets as part of the offer within the travel period, 5 September to 25 September.

To take advantage, customers need a valid student ID when purchasing their ticket, which can be bought from a staffed station or on-board if travelling from an unstaffed station. The offer is not available online and advance bookings are not required.

For Off-Peak Returns, return travel is valid for up to one month, which means the last date for return travel is 24 October. For Off-Peak Day Returns, outward and return travel must be completed on the same day.

More information on the promotion, including full terms and conditions, can be found at www.scotrail.co.uk/students

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said:

“Our half-price promotion has proven really popular with students in the past, so we’re proud to once again do our bit to help them make the most of Freshers Week and the start of term.

“Whether students are exploring Scotland before terms starts, going to university for the first time, or heading back to campus to resume their studies, we think this offer will provide a welcome boost to their finances at a time when we’re all feeling the pinch.”
